Gerry Mellas joined Synergy in 2009 as a Consultant, having been an Executive in one of Victoria’s leading government agencies, the Transport Accident Commission (TAC). Gerry has extensive experience & exceptional skills in business planning, leadership coaching & performance management of teams through significant strategic & operational change, towards cultural transformation & continuous quality improvement (CQI). He is an excellent communicator with strong problem-solving abilities focused on identifying client needs, providing tactical business solutions & exceeding expectations.
Over the past 14 years, Gerry has led multi-disciplinary teams specialising in a wide range of data analytics & assessment, including both clinical & financial auditing & quality assurance, forensic accounting, investigation & enforcement, plus managed the outsourcing of contractor services. In his two most recent roles at the TAC, Gerry headed a special fixed term project in the role of Taskforce Director, where he led a high profile & sensitive medical provider project – identifying & correcting billing irregularities. Prior to this Gerry was the Senior Manager of the TAC’s Compliance Group which provided risk management, compliance, regulatory & fraud control consulting/advisory services.
Gerry has a strong understanding of business & reputational risks in the public sector & has provided effective solutions at Board & Executive level on compliance & regulatory issues which achieved an appropriate balance between statutory obligations & commercial considerations. He has a strong record in developing cohesive & collaborative teams, raising leadership effectiveness & staff motivation/discretionary effort. He is also known for values-based leadership & sensitively managing cultural diversity across generations, genders, working styles, specialist professions & international cultures. He has a strong understanding of how diversity impacts on management practices & operational effectiveness, & is able to channel this diverse thinking & behaviour towards more creative & productive outcomes.
Gerry has a Bachelor of Arts (majoring politics & sociology) plus a Masters in Business Management from Monash University. He has successfully completed the Commercial Investigators Course at the Victoria Police Detective Training School & is currently completing his Cert IV & Diploma in Workplace & Business Coaching. He is an Associate Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management (AFAIM); Certified Professional of the Australian Human Resources Institute (CAHRI); Member of the Institute of Public Administration Australia (MIPAA); & a Member of Monash University Graduate School of Business Mentor Program.
