Filming & Marketing to Promote Tourism, Samoa TV (South Pacific)
Client Issue: The Government funded Samoan TV channel seeked assistance to sought, capture & edit footage that increased viewers’ awareness of the active possibilities of Samoa through conventional & minority sports & activities. Video cameras were taken in to extreme & remote parts of the Samoan land & ocean environments to source & capture imagery & work with the extreme athletes. Paul Guymer worked with athletes & adventurers from Samoa & many other nations, seeking creative collaborative approaches to filming & production.
Solution: Specific events were arranged, naturally occurring events were visited, all in conjunction with filming & audio capture, highlighting geographically challenging environments & physical challenges undertaken by people from many nations. The use of Geographic Information Systems was also employed to deliver visual understanding of the physical locations of events. Certain filming locations required specialised equipment to be prepared & dangerous environments to be intimately approached.
Outcome: Working with the television station to capture challenging footage raised beliefs within personnel of what was possible & set a strong precedence that would continue. Post-editing assistance enabled not only the planned & prepared content to be televised successfully, but the strengthened capture & editing capacity enabled on-the-spot opportunistic capture of other events & planned capture using creative techniques learned & was subsequently built upon.
