Executive Development of Postgraduate Deans,
NHS Executive South West (UK)
Client Issue: From its inception the NHS R&D & Education Strategies have consisted of a co-ordinated national program carried out by staff in the NHS Executive HQ & Regional Offices acting as one organisation, in conjunction with purchasers, providers & researchers. The Directorate for the South West NHS was one of 8 regional directorates working closely with the NHS Executive HQ based in Leeds & London (until restructuring in Apr 2002). The Postgraduate Medical & Dental Deans in the NHS Executive (South West) were always an innovative team & in 2000 they embarked on an Executive Leadership Development Program which they wanted to be underpinned by executive coaching. Given Synergy’s extensive experience & strength helping the NHS with modernisation, & in developing wider leadership capacity in health & social care, we were approached & won the tender to deliver a six month program of confidential development coaching to each of the Postgraduate Deans.
Solution: Executive coaching tackling a wide range of service modernisation issues, educational strategy, multi-disciplinary working, changing roles, workforce planning & personal development.
Outcome: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realist given constraints & Timed (SMART) objectives were agreed with each Dean prior to the commencement of the service & evaluated positively, with the main outcome themes shared with colleagues.
