It consists of Sainsbury's Supermarkets (est. in 1869), Sainsbury's Local, Bells Stores, Jacksons Stores, JB Beaumont Stores, & Sainsbury’s Online - plus Sainsbury's Bank. It employs over 148,000 people. The company’s objective is simple; to serve customers well & thereby provide shareholders with good, sustainable financial returns. Sainsbury recognise that staff are their greatest resource & aim to ensure that all have opportunities to develop their abilities & are rewarded for their contribution to the success of the business. They also have a strong policy to work fairly with all suppliers, recognising the mutual benefit of satisfying customers' needs, at the same time as fulfilling their responsibilities to the communities & environments in which they operate. In a highly competitive market place, the company set out to deliver an ever improving quality shopping experience for customers with great product at fair prices – with the stated goal of “exceeding customer expectations for healthy, safe, fresh & tasty food making their lives easier everyday”. Synergy worked with Sainsbury's Supermarkets, the UK’s longest-standing food retailing chain, to help their HR Team with cultural change; encouraging staff to take more personal responsibility for their own development. The HR Team were working on cultural change, trying to encourage staff to take more personal responsibility for their own development. However, they were doing lots of skills training but little structured opportunities for further team & leadership development.
Solution: One of Synergy’s master trainers/facilitators assisted the client with tailored top down team & leadership development for 500 people over the course of several months.
Outcome: All sessions had positive evaluations. We then helped the company with their internal training roll-out/implementation strategy, along with a communication plan to engage staff in the process
(this included management & HR briefings).
