People Development Strategy & Workshops, GlaxoSmithKline (UK)
Client Issue: GSK is a research-based pharmaceutical company with a challenging & inspiring mission: to improve the quality of human life by enabling people to do more, feel better & live longer. Their purpose is to develop innovative medicines & products that help millions of people around the world, especially those with HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis & malaria. The company is headquartered in the UK, with operations based in the US – they are an industry leader with an estimated 7% of the world's pharmaceutical market. As a company with a firm foundation in science, they have a flair for research & a track record of turning that research into powerful, marketable drugs that treat six major disease areas – asthma, virus control, infections, mental health, diabetes & digestive conditions. In addition, GSK are a leader in the important area of vaccines & are developing new treatments for cancer. Their consumer brands include the following household names: Ribena, Horlicks, Lucozade, Aquafresh, Sensodyne, Panadol, Tums, & Zovirax. GSK employ over 100,000 people in 117 countries. The particular issue that we helped them with in Europe was staff development – especially around the area of helping individuals take more responsibility for their own development & for the development of their team.
Solution: Creation of a skills inventory based on the companies core competencies, along with some facilitation skills transfer & preparation of internal workshop development.
Outcome: Internal development staff were more confident in their ability to facilitate team workshops, which in turn, helped to empower staff to take more responsibility for their own development.
