Client Issue: Cable & Wireless is one of the world’s leading international communications companies. It operates through two stand alone business units – International; plus Europe, Asia & US. The International business unit operates integrated telecommunications companies in 33 countries offering mobile, broadband, domestic & international fixed line services to residential & business customers, with principal operations in the Caribbean, Panama, Macau, Monaco & the Channel Islands. The Europe, Asia & US business unit provides enterprise & carrier solutions to the largest users of telecoms services across the UK, US, continental Europe & Asia – as well as wholesale broadband services in the UK. In the late 1990s Cable & Wireless expressed a need for a Leadership Development Program for those with high potential within the organisation (as identified by general managers & HR).

Solution: We advised/interviewed nominated high potential middle managers & established a successful fast track program, underpinned by action learning teams for managers, linking personal development goals to business issues. 1:1 executive coaching was also carried out for several senior managers on career & performance issues.

Outcome: Program, action learning teams & executive coaching all well evaluated - & requested to facilitate a further team-building session for senior managers in the Markets Group.
